Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region presents a refreshing conjunction of new and old:
The Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, just steps from the site of an historical mill.

The bustling Waterloo Region of Ontario, Canada has a population of about 500,000, and includes the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, as well as myriad smaller towns and villages nestled in picturesque rolling fertile farmland.   It was originally established around mills along the Grand River, a Canadian heritage river which runs through the region.

The region is located on Highway 401, which joins Montreal, Toronto and Detroit, and is a 1-hour drive from Toronto, Canada's largest city with a population of 4 million, and its Pearson International Airport.   It is also within 2 hours drive of Niagara Falls and Buffalo New York.

The Waterloo Region is a rapidly growing high-tech area (including the home of the Blackberry), includes two major universities, and has a lively cultural scene with theatres, a symphony orchestra, and a wide array of music venues. The renowned Stratford Shakespearean Festival and Shaw Festivals are nearby.
